With 20% covid-19 vaccination, mortality will be reduced by 80%: López-Gatell

MEXICO– The undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, reported that the mortality rate in Mexico can be reduced by 80% with only  20% coverage in vaccination, since most of the current mortality rate’s demographics are mostly elder people.

“If we manage to have that vaccination prioritizing the ages; the profit is very accelerated, “he said.

Likewise, he explained that with the arrival of vaccines the pandemic dynamic and management changes, since the situation becomes much better with a protection method:

“With the arrival of vaccines, the management of the epidemic takes a radical turn In Mexico, if not in the world, it is very different to have a specific protection instrument that allows us to actively control the epidemic, ”he said.

Gatell also informed about the arrival of a new batch of vaccines with just over 53,000 doses, of with 8,755 will be allocate for the state of Coahuila, and 44,850 for Mexico City.

It should be noted that Mexico ranks first in the number of people vaccinated against Coronavirus, reported President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

During his traditional morning conference Monday, the president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) reported that about 40 thousand vaccines against COVID-19 have been applied in Mexico.

“We have already almost 40 thousand people vaccinated, and from what we have in existence, more than 70 percent of the vaccines applied. Fortunately, we have not had nay major problems with deployment. Only the side-effects reaction with a doctor who had complications with the application of the [Pfizer] vaccine, which is is being treated [at the hospital].”

AMLO explained that it’s important to highlight that Mexico is currently the number 1 country to have the most vaccinated people, among countries such as China, the United States, Israel, the United Kingdom, etc.

The president explained that the vaccine deployment only stopped one day, on January 1, because it was a holiday.

Finally, AMLO reported that at the end of January just over 1.400,00 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will arrive in Mexico, which will “allow 750,000 people to be vaccinated, which is what we estimate, we need to to vaccinate all the medical personnel who are in COVID hospitals, saving lives ”.

Mexico’s total population is of 129 million people.
